Baseball Book Top Ten - Best Baseball Books on Labor Day September 1st, 2008

My restart here had been tepid at best but I’m going to forget the pity party and get right to the list…

1) Moneyball
2) Watching Baseball Smarter
3) Yankee Stadium: The Official Retrospective
4) The Natural
5) Yankee For Life
6) The 33 Year Old Rookie
7) Shoeless Joe
8) Wait Till Next Year
9) Living on the Black
10) The Mental Game of Baseball

Moneyball creeps back to the top and the only two debuts are older books.  Watching Baseball Smarter is a book I have yet to read and I’m not sure what the sudden interest is in it (although it looks like a solid read and it’s written by a fellow blogger).  Wait Till Next Year was written in the late 90s and it’s basically a diary of a life long Brooklyn Dodgers fan.

I’d say check back next week but it’s been more like a monthly thing over here.  Just need to buckle down and get through some baseball books.

While not technically a baseball book, I’d like to suggest a book that is timely in the baseball just incorporated instant replay into the game. “instant Replay: The Day That Changed Sports Forever” is written by the guy that invented instant replay - Tony Verna - a long time vet of TV sports broadcasts with a very interesting story to tell.

Recommend the book “A Glove of Their Own” — new children’s book follows an underprivileged group of kids whose lack of equipment doesn’t hamper their love of baseball.

When readers purchase this wonderfully illustrated, hard-cover book for $15.95 at http://www.agloveoftheirown.com they can select Cheerful Givers (code CHG 132) to receive a portion of the proceeds which allows less fortunate kids to receive a toy-filled birthday gift bag on their one special day. For more info, visit http://www.cheerfulgivers.org. Makes a wonderful holiday gift for any baseball fan or any child!
